Baseball Recap: Martinsville Takes a Loss

Martinsville had lost 18 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-17 to make it 19. They came up short against the Decatur Central Hawks, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Thursday.

As for Decatur Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Decatur Central's part, they got a massive performance out of Zach Losito, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Losito has become a key player for the Hawks: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Seib, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Martinsville will take on Perry Meridian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Artesians are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Decatur Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Franklin Community at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzly Cubs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
