Softball Recap: Carbondale Comes Up Short

Carbondale was the 2-1 winner over Murphysboro when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Terriers fell 10-7 to the Red Devils on Thursday. The Terriers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kaelyn Viernum was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. Jasmine Martin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Carbondale's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Murphysboro, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-19.

Looking ahead, Carbondale will head out to face off against Goreville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Terriers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blackcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Murphysboro has already played their next contest (against Harrisburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
