Softball Recap: Whiting Oilers vs. Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors
Whiting had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-4 to make it five. They came up short against the Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors, falling 16-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Oilers of the 23-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Whiting saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arianna Vianello, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Anais (Niecy) Reyna and Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa did most of the damage at the plate: Reyna went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Espinosa got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Reyna a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Walker, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
While Whiting had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
