Basketball Recap: Westwood Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Westwood waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 81-66 victory over the Fairfield Eagles. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Eagles are ranked 947th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sebastian Lathan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards. Lathan has been hot, having posted ten or more boards the last six times he's played. Kavian Bryant was another key player, putting up 18 points along with eight assists and three steals.

Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Westwood's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Fairfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Teague the next time they take the court. Fairfield will head out to face Teague at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Westwood will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
