League recap: Haleyville wins, gets boost in standings

Haleyville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 4A Region 8. The Lions beat Winfield 42-10 earlier in the week.

West Limestone and Elkmont played the most contested game in the league this week, with West Limestone eventually emerging with a 25-23 victory. Dillon Miller ran for 128 yards during the win.

Haleyville's Blake Wilkes and Jonas Dodd led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Wilkes has thrown for 752 yards this season, while Dodd has 9 catches for 216 yards. The Wildcats' Miller leads the league in rushing yards with 552.

Two of the top teams in 4A Region 8 will go toe-to-toe this week when Mark Heaton's team takes on Brooks. The Lions' offense has scored 142 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Lions have allowed only 57 on the year.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Haleyville takes on Brooks. The Lions are in first place, while Jerry Hill's team is in third place.

Haleyville made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,449 from 5,193. The improvement was largely due to a 42-10 victory over the Pirates last week.
