Basketball Game Preview: MacArthur Brahmas vs. South San Antonio Bobcats

The MacArthur Brahmas will take on the South San Antonio Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. MacArthur will be strutting in after a victory while South San Antonio will be coming in after a defeat.

South San Antonio will be up against a hot MacArthur squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. MacArthur blew past Southside 56-29 on Tuesday. The Brahmas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 20 games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 27-27 at halftime, South San Antonio was not quite Southside's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 45-33 to the Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 570th, while the Cardinals are ranked 224th).

MacArthur will need focus on slowing down Marli Maldonado, one of several South San Antonio players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 12 points and four steals. Maldonado has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewel Alvarez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

MacArthur pushed their record up to 25-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points per game. As for South San Antonio, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-15.

Everything went MacArthur's way against South San Antonio in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as MacArthur made off with a 43-23 victory. Does MacArthur have another victory up their sleeve, or will South San Antonio turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
