A feisty cat fight will be fought as Killian Cougars face off against Mater Academy Charter Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mater Academy Charter took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Killian, who comes in off a win.
Killian will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Archbishop Carroll on Tuesday. Killian put the hurt on Archbishop Carroll with a sharp 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lucas Fernandez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fernandez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Alex Fonseca looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Killian is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Jacob Popowski and Kevin Nunez did most of the damage at the plate: Popowski scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Nunez scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. Lucas Arcaute was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Killian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter fell victim to St. Brendan and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Sabres by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since February 13th.
Mater Academy Charter's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.2 runs. As for Killian, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Killian came up short against Mater Academy Charter when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 8-4. Can Killian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
