Baseball Recap: Brooks Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Brooks ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Florence Falcons. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Falcons on Saturday, they had to take a 13-7 loss.

Brooks let Tristan Vandiver and Andrew Edwards run wild. Vandiver went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one triple, while Edwards scored three runs while going 2-for-5. Edwards is becoming a predictor of Brooks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Slade Vandervelde, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Brooks is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. Florence's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Brooks Lions take on Deshler Tigers on Friday. As for Florence, they will challenge Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Florence is facing Central at the right time seeing as Central is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
