Softball Recap: Ingleside Comes Up Short

If Ingleside was feeling good fresh off their 11-0 takedown of Jones on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell just short of the Rockport-Fulton Pirates by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since February 27th.

Kylee Ward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ingleside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Salazar, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Kiki Smith was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Ingleside's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 20-13. As for Rockport-Fulton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-5.

Coming up, Ingleside will challenge Sweeny at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rockport-Fulton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
