Baseball Game Preview: Cardinal Newman Crusaders vs. DeLand Bulldogs

The Cardinal Newman Crusaders will square off against the DeLand Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cardinal Newman will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

If Cardinal Newman beats DeLand with six runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Cardinal Newman came out on top against Western by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.

Cardinal Newman got a great performance from Max Gonzalez as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, Gonzalez didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Finn Duran, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Carl Calixte was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, DeLand fell victim to St. Johns Country Day and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 10-0.

Cardinal Newman's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for DeLand, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
