Basketball Recap: Reed Falls Despite Big Games from Gabriel Smith and Nishaan Bajwa

Reed was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took an 81-65 bruising from the Douglas Tigers. Even though they lost, the Raiders' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.4 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Reed's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nishaan Bajwa, who went 8 for 13 en route to 21 points and seven rebounds, and Gabriel Smith, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 19 points and six boards. Those 21 points gave Bajwa a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of River Miller, who posted seven points.

Douglas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caden Thacker led the charge by putting up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Noah Kizer, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Reed's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Douglas, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-8.

Reed didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-46 defeat against Damonte Ranch on the 22nd. Douglas has also already played their next contest, a 50-34 loss against Reno on the 20th.
