Broadwater Academy is 0-9 against Greenbrier Christian Academy since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Gators at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Broadwater Academy sitting on seven straight wins and Greenbrier Christian Academy on 11.
On Thursday, Broadwater Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Arcadia, taking the game 4-1.
Ramsey Revelle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Broadwater Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrianna Holloway, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy got the win against Penfield on Friday by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Haleigh Murphy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Cora Smith and Reagan Frank did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Frank went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one triple. Ava Brinkley was another key player, earning three runs and one stolen base.
Broadwater Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their record is now 16-1.
Broadwater Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Vikings have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Greenbrier Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Broadwater Academy continue to outrun the ball?
Broadwater Academy suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Greenbrier Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
