Basketball Recap: St. Andrew's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

St. Andrew came tearing into Wednesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bulloch Academy Gators 73-50. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 22 points or more this season.

St. Andrew's got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zayden Edwards out in front who posted 20 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds. The match was Edwards' third in a row with at least ten points. Amari Cook also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

St. Andrew's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 23 consecutive contests.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackson Sheppard, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Sheppard a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Akiryon Watkins, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

St. Andrew's is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Bulloch Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.

St. Andrew's will have a chance to go back-to-back against Bulloch Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
