Baseball Game Preview: South Houston Trojans vs. Manvel Mavericks

For the second straight game, South Houston will face off against Manvel. South Houston will head out to square off against Manvel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. South Houston is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

South Houston came up short against Manvel on Friday, falling 22-3.

For Manvel's part, Jesus Merlo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Merlo was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Manvel got a massive performance out of Jacob Jimenez, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Jimenez has become a key player for Manvel: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Daniel Le was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 5-for-6.

Manvel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

South Houston's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Manvel, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7.
