Softball Game Preview: Southside Seahawks vs. East Carteret Mariners

For the second straight game, Southside will face off against East Carteret. The Seahawks will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. Southside has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Southside is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against East Carteret on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to the Mariners.

For East Carteret's part, Amilya Lewis was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Lewis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Sadie McIntosh was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grayson Gillikin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

East Carteret kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-3 when they post 11 or more hits.

East Carteret's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9-1.
