Softball Recap: Torrington Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Torrington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Derby Red Raiders. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.

Sophia Pergola was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kailyn Castillo was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Spring, who earned two RBI and two runs.

Torrington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Torrington's record now sits at 9-7. As for Derby, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
