Basketball Game Preview: Mendon Hornets vs. Colon Magi

The Mendon Hornets will challenge the Colon Magi at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mendon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season.

Mendon is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since January 25, 2024 last Tuesday. They were outmatched by Quincy and fell 70-38. The contest marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

The losing side was boosted by Ryder Gorham, who went 8 of 9 on his way to 16 points. His evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Gorham, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Colon came tearing into Monday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Indians to the tune of 66-14. The Magi have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Mendon's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-4. As for Colon, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

Mendon came up short against Colon in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 56-52. Can Mendon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
