Suburban recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Nordonia, who took down 107th ranked Green, 29-26.
Tallmadge extended the longest winning streak in Suburban this week by beating Revere, 52-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Anthony Gotto put up the best numbers through the air as Tallmadge defeated the Minutemen. He finished with a total of 19 completions for 289 yards and three touchdowns. Gotto's favorite target this week was Bryon Cook, who caught five passes for 109 yards.
Argeros Turner was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 107 yards on 15 carries as Copley beat Highland. Quincy Iverson also contributed to the rushing game with 26 yards on the ground.
Brown was the best wideout in the league this week as the Indians defeated the Hornets. Brown racked up seven receptions for 127 yards. Turner helped Copley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 26 yards.
Joe Vassalotti's team's Gotto and Jacob Wood have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Suburban in both passing and receiving yards. Gotto has thrown for 1029 yards this season, while Wood, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 20 catches for 272 yards. Cloverleaf's Devin Cunningham leads the league in rushing yards with 777.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Copley takes on the Knights. Ron Viscounte's team is in third place, while Nordonia is in second place.
The Blue Devils moved up to 101 from 167 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Tallmadge climbed the ranks as a result of a 52-7 win over Revere.
