Softball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 10-6 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Buchanan Bears. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bears from their previous meeting back in March of 2023.

Macie Webster was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

As for Buchanan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 16-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Buchanan's side, the result came thanks to Brooklyn Ainsworth's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sammie Kulak, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Buchanan beat Liberty by a score of 10-0 later that day.
