Baseball Recap: Oxnard Comes Up Short

Oxnard came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Buena Bulldogs, falling 9-2. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Oxnard got a good showing from Rick Ahumada, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Ahumada has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oxnard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aldrian Higgs, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Even though they lost, Oxnard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena struck out nine times.

Oxnard has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. Buena's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Coming up, Oxnard will challenge Buena at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Buena's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Oxnard's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Buena, they have already played their next game, a 19-4 victory against Grace on the 12th.
