Volleyball Recap: Lafayette Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After flying high against Estill County on Tuesday, Lafayette came back down to earth. The Generals fell 3-1 to the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds on Wednesday. The Generals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thoroughbreds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Lafayette started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-23, 25-15, 26-24.

Audrey Gossett paced Lafayette's offense, picking up 19 kills. Gossett got some help from Elise Trimble and her 39 assists. Xiomara Ramos and Emma Kate Daniels kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with three aces apiece.

Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Newport Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-15 record this season.

Lafayette will face off against DuPont Manual at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport Central Catholic, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Bellevue on the 9th.
