Football Recap: Gretna Takes Down Floyd County in a Playoff Battle + How To Watch

Gretna had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Floyd County Buffaloes 56-55. The Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Buffaloes on Friday, too.

Gretna was led to victory by Khalil Waller and Rayshaun Logan. Waller rushed for 254 yards and four scores while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, while Logan rushed for 130 yards and four TDs while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Waller a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gretna was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 384 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Floyd County still got an impressive performance from Sam Phillips, who rushed for 126 yards and four touchdowns, and also threw for 215 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes. Thanks to that big game, Phillips is now up to 11 rushing touchdowns on the season.

Gretna's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Floyd County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season.

Gretna will square off against Glenvar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders' defense has only allowed 3.7 points per game this season, so the Hawks' offense will have their work cut out for them. Floyd County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
