Baseball Recap: Grants Pass Cavemen vs. South Salem Saxons
Grants Pass had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 12-11 to make it four. They lost 11-2 to the South Salem Saxons. If the Cavemen were looking for revenge after losing 6-5 to the Saxons when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for South Salem, the win keeps they at an undefeated 25-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.3 runs this season.
For South Salem's part, Harrison Buckingham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Buckingham.
On the hitting side, South Salem got a massive performance out of Teagan Scott, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Scott has posted since back in April. Sawyer Nelson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
While Grants Pass had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
