Baseball Recap: Lexington Minutemen vs. St. Paul Lutheran Saints
Lexington had lost five straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-20 to make it six. They took a 15-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Paul Lutheran Saints. The Minutemen were not able to make up for their loss to the Saints from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Braxton Emerson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Chael Lichte also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
As for St. Paul Lutheran, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
On St. Paul Lutheran's side, Gus Sayre made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, Sayre posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ty McGinnis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaydon Battista, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lexington will face off against Plattsburg at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Paul Lutheran, they will square off against California at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
