Baseball Recap: Riverside Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Riverside waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Shaw Warriors as they made off with a 17-3 victory. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Cameron Massey made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Riverside got a big performance out of Blayne Cornelius, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The Bulldogs are undefeated when Cornelius posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Knight, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .574 or higher in three consecutive games.

Riverside now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Shaw, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Riverside will challenge South Delta at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. South Delta has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.6 runs per game on average), something Riverside will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Shaw, they will square off against Leflore County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
