Baseball Game Preview: Grace Academy Knights vs. GVCS Broadfording Lions

The Grace Academy Knights will take on the GVCS Broadfording Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Grace Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Grace Academy took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Heritage Academy.

Austin Sweeney made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Grace Academy's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Sweeney was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on AJ Presley, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, GVCS Broadfording made easy work of Cumberland Valley Christian on Friday and carried off an 11-5 win. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Blazers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

GVCS Broadfording pushed their record up to 13-13 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grace Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season.

Grace Academy couldn't quite get it done against GVCS Broadfording in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 7-4. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
