Softball Game Preview: La Salle Academy Rams vs. Cumberland Clippers

La Salle Academy has gone 8-2 against Cumberland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rams will host the Clippers at 1:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (La Salle Academy has 32 straight victories, Cumberland has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

La Salle Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Cranston West, who was ranked seventh at the time (La Salle Academy was ranked second). The Rams walked away with a 10-6 win over the Falcons on Wednesday.

Hailey Vigneau made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Phoenyx Silva, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Diana Hall, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

La Salle Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .381 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Cumberland lost 13-2 to Coventry on Tuesday.

La Salle Academy pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Cumberland, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
