Softball Recap: Maritime Academy Charter Wins Going Away Against First Philadelphia Prep

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Maritime Academy Charter had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the First Philadelphia Prep Eagles.

Leilani Davila made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Davila was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yareilis Santiago-Campos, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaycie Clark, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and six RBI.

Maritime Academy Charter lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Maritime Academy Charter's victory bumped their record up to 5-6-1. As for First Philadelphia Prep, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Looking ahead, Maritime Academy Charter will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Samuel Fels at 3:15 p.m. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. First Philadelphia Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
