Basketball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Takes a Loss

Mishawaka Marian lost against Elkhart back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mishawaka Marian Knights came up short against the Elkhart Lions, falling 52-26. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while the Lions are ranked 115th).

Despite the loss, Mishawaka Marian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kariya Byer dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Byer has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last five times she's played.

Mishawaka Marian dropped their record down to 4-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Elkhart, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Mishawaka Marian has already played their next contest (against NorthWood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Elkhart has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Lawrence Central.
