Softball Recap: Saugus Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Saugus and Swampscott, and Saugus kept the tradition alive. The Sachems' pitchers stepped up to hand the Big Blue a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Sachems: when they faced off against the Big Blue back in April, they had to take a 7-4 defeat.

Saugus let Ariana Chianca and Layla DeMonte run wild. Chianca went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while DeMonte went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave DeMonte a new career-high. Danica Schena was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Saugus has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Swampscott, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Saugus will square off against Watertown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Swampscott, they will challenge Everett at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
