The Washington Patriots will head out to face off against the Hedgesville Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Washington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Hedgesville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Washington took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Musselman get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. Considering the Patriots have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sven Dupree was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brayden Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hedgesville faced Washington in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eagles walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Patriots. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Mason McGill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Manor, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Cash Dunham was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Hedgesville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10-1 record this season.
Washington came up short against Hedgesville when the teams last played on Wednesday, falling 9-4. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
