The Hillsboro Tigers will square off against the Brookwood Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a proper cat-fight when Hillsboro took on Royall on Monday. The Tigers blew past the Panthers 15-2. The Tigers have beaten the Panthers the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Halle Hora spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
At the plate, Madisyn Herritz and Michelyn Hansen did most of the damage at the plate: Herritz went 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Hansen got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two doubles gave Herritz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Sullivan, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Hillsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Brookwood got the win against Wonewoc-Center on Monday by a conclusive 17-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.
Mallory Wallace made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Wallace was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Emily Cunitz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Payge Clark was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Brookwood now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Hillsboro, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
