Basketball Recap: American Fork Comes Up Short

American Fork and Copper Hills squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but American Fork had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Copper Hills Grizzlies and fell 67-33. While losing is never fun, the Cavemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Grizzlies are ranked third).

Leading Copper Hills to victory were Skylie Barker and Ayla Marston. Barker went 7-for-15 en route to 18 points and seven assists, while Marston went 6-for-11 on her way to 18 points and six assists. Barker has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Fusi Leger, who posted nine points and three steals.

American Fork's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-19. As for Copper Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

American Fork does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Copper Hills, they will face off against Mountain Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Copper Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
