Softball Recap: White Oak Has No Trouble Against East Carteret

White Oak had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt East Carteret on Tuesday. The White Oak Vikings were the clear victor by a 14-7 margin over the East Carteret Mariners. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Mariners two weeks ago, they had to take a 11-7 defeat.

Alyssa Carkhuff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Avery Sise was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Gracie Tompkins also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

White Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Carteret only posted an OBP of .343.

White Oak's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for East Carteret, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Coming up, White Oak is taking a road trip to challenge Pamlico County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Carteret, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dixon at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
