Recap: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. Rye Thunderbolts

Sadly, the Ellicott Thunderhawks are still looking for their first win of the season after 16 games. They were outmatched by Rye at home and fell 66-34. Ellicott was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-17.

Loss or not, Ellicott got some senior leadership from James Bourgeois and Conagher Briggs. Bourgeois scored 12 points along with five steals, while Briggs. scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 35.3% of Ellicott's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Rye to victory were Brandon Benz and Eli Guzman. Benz scored 23 points, while Guzman scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Guzman has scored all season. Jay Graham was another key contributor, scoring three points along with nine assists and six rebounds.

Ellicott's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Rye, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5.

Ellicott will be playing at home against Crowley County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Crowley County will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something Ellicott surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rye, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Manitou Springs at 5:30 p.m. Manitou Springs has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
