Football Recap: Hilliard Red Flashes vs. St. Joseph Academy Flashes
Hilliard was the 47-6 winner over St. Joseph Academy when they last played one another back in September of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Flashes and the Flashes were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Red Flashes suffered a 49-48 defeat. Despite 161 more yards than the Flashes, the Red Flashes couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Kolt King threw for 61 yards. Nate Davis was his top target, picking up 61 receiving yards. On the ground, Dj Alderman rushed for 477 yards and seven scores while picking up 15.9 yards per carry.
A big part of St. Joseph Academy's victory came down to the chemistry between Cody Ott and his top target Camden Coffindaffer. Ott threw for 195 yards and one touchdown while Coffindaffer picked up 59 receiving yards and one TD. Coffindaffer also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making four total tackles.
This is the second loss in a row for Hilliard and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for St. Joseph Academy, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
Looking ahead, Hilliard will head out to take on Branford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will square off against Duval Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Flashes will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.2 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
