Basketball Recap: Mendon Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ryder Gorham and Owen Gorham

If Mendon was feeling good fresh off their 73-25 takedown of Pansophia Academy last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mendon Hornets fell 79-67 to the Burr Oak Bobcats on Wednesday. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bobcats earlier this season, when they won 61-50.

Mendon's loss came despite strong showings from Owen Gorham and Ryder Gorham. Owen almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Ryder shot 59% from the field to rack up 25 points and seven assists. Ryder's big performance that evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talan Buchanan, who posted five points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Mendon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Burr Oak was led to victory by Austin Cole and Braxton Boyles. Cole went 13-for-17 en route to 30 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists, while Boyles shot 69% from the field on his way to 25 points and seven boards. With that strong performance, Cole is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Kayden Cole was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven assists.

Mendon's record is now 12-11. As for Burr Oak, their record is now 13-9.

Mendon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Burr Oak, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-34 defeat against Colon on the 28th.
