Baseball Recap: El Monte Takes a Loss

El Monte extended their losing streak to 14 on Monday, dropping them down to 1-14. They lost 12-0 to the Arroyo Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in March.

El Monte saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaime Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

As for Arroyo, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Considering they have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Arroyo's side, Nathan Castillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Castillo a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jacob Antuna was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Oscar Lopez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. El Monte will face off against Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Arroyo, they will challenge South El Monte at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
