Softball Recap: Pioneer Gets the Win

Pioneer lost to West Central back in May of 2025, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Panthers walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Trojans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Lois Layer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Layer wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madyson Shaffer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Pioneer's record now sits at 11-9. As for West Central, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-8 record.

Looking ahead, Pioneer is taking a road trip to square off against Knox at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Redskins' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West Central, they will square off against North Judson-San Pierre at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bluejays have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
