Basketball Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

Mitchell lost to North Buncombe back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Mountaineers fell 75-71 to the Black Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Black Hawks are ranked 142nd).

North Buncombe had a senior duo take command as Trent Clark went 9-for-20 on his way to 28 points and eight rebounds and Matthew Ledford shot 40% from the field to rack up 24 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The contest was Clark's 36th in a row with at least 15 points. Parker Hyatt was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for North Buncombe, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-41 victory against CHASE on the 26th. As for North Buncombe, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-50 loss against Pisgah on the 23rd.
