Basketball Game Preview: Deering Rams vs. Cheverus Stags

The Deering Rams will square off against the Cheverus Stags at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Deering has given up an average of 57.2 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Tuesday, Deering lost to Scarborough at home by a 56-41 margin. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Red Storm are ranked 29th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cheverus). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Massabesic 90-47. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since January 13, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Deering has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Cheverus, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Deering skirted past Cheverus 65-62 in their previous matchup back in January of 2025. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stags turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
