Basketball Recap: High Point Central Starts Season with Victory at Home

High Point Central gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Ragsdale Tigers by a score of 78-68. The Bison pushed the score to 64-41 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.

High Point Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Hill led the charge by putting up 22 points. The contest was Hill's fourth in a row with at least 22 points. Jayden Velez was another key player, posting 19 points.

Despite the defeat, Ragsdale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Souleymane Sy posted 32 points and five steals. Sy is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tay Bethea, who had five points and five steals.

Ragsdale now has a losing record of 1-2.

High Point Central has already played their next game, a 59-58 loss against Southwest Guilford on the 21st. As for Ragsdale, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-43 win against Southeast Guilford on the 21st.
