Basketball Recap: Ella Cochran Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Freedom

South Lake hadn't done well against Freedom recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The South Lake Eagles snuck past the Freedom Patriots with a 33-29 win. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 43-29 victory the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.

South Lake got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ella Cochran out in front who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Ale Franceschi, who earned seven points.

South Lake has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Freedom, they dropped their record down to 4-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

South Lake and Freedom could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. South Lake (ranked 266th) will meet Windermere Prep (ranked 35th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Freedom will challenge Cypress Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday down 258 places (472 vs. 214).
