The Houston Christian Mustangs will take on the Episcopal Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Houston Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Houston Christian got the win against First Baptist Christian by a conclusive 16-1. Considering the Mustangs have won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Millie Metz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Maddie Pickett and Yazmine Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Pickett went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Johnson went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That home run was Pickett's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sabina Houston, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Houston Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Episcopal waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since March 28, 2024.
Houston Christian has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Episcopal, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Houston Christian beat Episcopal 8-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
