Baseball Recap: Colonial Comes Up Short

Colonial had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 7-12 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the University Cougars. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Colonial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jose Marrero, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Sean Elliot, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for University, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-10. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On University's side, Jorge Martinez was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Martinez's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Khi Starling, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Colonial and University are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Grenadiers will take on Timber Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for University, they will face off against Boone at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
