Basketball Recap: Oxford Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Makhila Maupin and Yasmin Gardea

Oxford lost against Udall back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Oxford Wildcats took a 53-34 bruising from the Udall Eagles.

Oxford's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Yasmin Gardea, who went 8-for-18 on her way to 19 points, and Makhila Maupin, who posted eight points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Oxford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They pulled down seven more offensive boards than Udall's also-impressive total of 12.

Udall found their leader in sophomore Lilly Hoffman, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Hoffman also grabbed seven steals, which is notable because Udall is 8-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 0-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh King, who scored eight points and six boards.

Oxford's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Udall, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11.

Oxford wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 38-36 victory against West Elk on the 14th. Udall has also already played their next contest (against Sedan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
