Baseball Recap: Madison Comes Up Short

After flying high against Rosman on Monday, Madison came back down to earth. The Patriots fell just short of the Mitchell Mountaineers by a score of 10-9 on Tuesday. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mountaineers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Max Shelton and Dallas Bartlett did some serious damage despite the final result: Shelton went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Bartlett went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Madison is 4-2 when Shelton posts three or more hits, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Caleb Griffin, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Madison has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Mitchell, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Madison beat the Mountaineers by a score of 7-6 on Thursday.
