Football Recap: Lovejoy Starts off Right with Win over Lubbock-Cooper

Lovejoy had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates with a 35-31 victory. Given the Leopards' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Pirates are ranked 103rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lovejoy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Janecek, who rushed for 131 yards and one score on only 11 carries, and also threw for 159 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards Janecek has posted since back in September of 2024. Another back making a difference was Zach Jones, who rushed for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Lovejoy will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Highland Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lubbock-Cooper, they are taking a road trip to take on Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
