Basketball Game Preview: Cuthbertson Cavaliers vs. Ardrey Kell Knights

Cuthbertson hasn't had much luck against Ardrey Kell recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cuthbertson Cavaliers will welcome the Ardrey Kell Knights at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Ardrey Kell will be up against a hot Cuthbertson team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Cuthbertson walked away with a 64-51 victory over Porter Ridge on Friday. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while the Pirates are ranked 432nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Mecklenburg typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Ardrey Kell proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sabres, sneaking past 72-69. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted against the Sabres since January 6, 2021.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Brett Freeman and Ben Houpt. Freeman had a great game and went 7 for 14 on his way to 24 points. Meanwhile, Houpt was balling out in the loss, putting up 21 points.

Cuthbertson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Ardrey Kell, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

Cuthbertson was taken down by Ardrey Kell 79-46 when the teams last played back in January of 2024.
