Basketball Game Preview: Stoneman Douglas Eagles vs. Piper Bengals

The Stoneman Douglas Eagles will take on the Piper Bengals at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Friday, Stoneman Douglas came up short against South Broward and fell 40-28. The Eagles have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Piper unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Chaminade-Madonna by a score of 44-41.

Despite the loss, Piper saw an underclassman step up: freshman Janiya Joassin posted 20 points. Joassin's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tahlia Dolce, who put up 11 points.

Piper's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Stoneman Douglas, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Stoneman Douglas came up short against Piper in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 43-35. Can Stoneman Douglas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
